RIVAL

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: In the end, RIVAL have the last laugh!

My Gameplay: LEAST, ALONG, CABAL, WIPER, RIVAL

Getting solved letters in their correct positions was my downfall today. Messing around too long will lead you straight of guesses and into disappointment. My guess is that we’ll see double letters in the next one. You never know. Rock your Thursday! On to tomorrow!

USUAL

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: I wouldn’t HABIT any other way!

My Gameplay: EPOCH, FRANK, BASIL, USUAL

I’m thinking most players came away with the A, but had trouble locating the double U’s. That was my issue anyway. Have a wonderful Wednesday! On to tomorrow!

SPOKE

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Be WORDY to go in 5 minutes or I’m leaving!

My Gameplay: TALES, SHIRE, SCONE, SPOKE

Today’s puzzle was pretty much a snap after getting 3 of the letters lined up. Down the list I went trying each letter until I found something that worked. It never occurred to me until after the solve that a SPOKE can also be a part of a bicycle tire. Have a great Tuesday everyone. On to tomorrow!

APPLY

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: How about USE two help me with my project.

My Gameplay: LEAST, ALONG, ANVIL, APPLY

There’s no better way to start the week than having double-letters AND a Y as our vowel! I was onto the Y being the last letter because I had used all of the other vowels, except U. Have a great start to your week. On to tomorrow!

NAIVE

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: She’s acting cold and ARTLESS!

KNOCK

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Please don’t turn the temperature down BLOW 70.

My Gameplay: LEAST, PORCH, DINGY, KNOCK

With the –CH suffix eliminated from the equation, I was quite sure that the solution would contain double letters. I began letter-crunching alphabetically and was on the K in no time. How’d ya’ll do? Let’s hear some new voices!!! On to tomorrow!

Wordle Answer for 12/09/2022 (#538)

BRAID

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Please be sure to turn off the A/C when you WEAVE.

My Gameplay: STARE, PRANK, CRAWL, BRAVO, BRAID

When my mind latched onto BRAVO, I thought for sure I had it in the bag. In hindsight, I think I spent way too much time working around the R and A that were uncovered on my first try, and should’ve guessed an entirely different word that used up more letters by my third attempt. Failure is a wise teacher. On to tomorrow!

INFER

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Did this Wordle DERIVE you crazy?

My Gameplay: RATES, CHILD, MINER, INNER, INFER

As my luck would have it, I was down to INNER and INFER, and chose the wrong one! Oh well, solving it in 5 guesses isn’t all that bad. 4 would have sounded better though! Here’s hoping your solve went better than mine. On to tomorrow.

JOUST

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Did this Wordle STIRRUP trouble for you?

My Gameplay: TARES, PUNCH, STUFF, JOUST

Even though this one had a “J” in it, it didn’t saddle me down too long. A 3-minute stretch of mental gymnastics was all it took to do the deed. May your solve have been just as easy. On to tomorrow!
