CARRY

DEFINITION ETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: HAUL I wanted was to solve it in 4-guesses!

My Gameplay: TALES, MAGIC, CANDY, CABBY, CARRY

Once again I ran into a situation where I figured the answer would have double-letters, but I chose the wrong word to try. So frustrating! CARRY, to me, is a bland-sounding word. CABBY, on the other hand, has the less common B and would’ve made the solve much more challenging to decipher. If the Wordle puzzle is around long enough, we’ll bump into it sooner or later as it is 5-letters. I wonder how I’ll do on that day? On to tomorrow!

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: I FLOUT that this one was too easy!

Jaywalkers!

My Gameplay: STEAL, BLOND, CLOUT, FLOUT

That’s what I get for not trusting my gut! It was a toss-up between FLOUT and CLOUT, and unfortunately I chose incorrectly. I figured CLOUT was the safer bet. Hey, we’re only 6 puzzles away from #500! I remember them way back from nearly the beginning and still find them enjoyable to play. On to tomorrow!

FOGGY

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: How could you have MIST it?

My Gameplay: UNFED FORTY, FOGGY

Sometimes you just get lucky, and today was one of those days for me! FOGGY immediately came to mind after playing FORTY so I had no doubt that I’d solve it in three guesses. I did play around with the letters a bit just to be sure though. The Wordle has surprised me before! Happy Tuesday everyone. On to tomorrow!

FAULT

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: You must follow DEFECTS wherever they may lead.

My Gameplay: TALES, FAULT

Now that’s a great way to start off my week of solves! The A was in the correct spot so I decided to couple the LT at the end and FAULT was the only word that came to mind. Just look at that dastardly dachshund in the image above. It’s face has that “I’m guilty of something…” sort of look. It’s probably time to break out the carpet cleaner. Have a great start to your week. On to tomorrow!

MUMMY

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Having one guess left gave me GAUZE for concern!

My Gameplay: SLATE, MOURN, MUDDY, MUCKY, MUGGY, MUMMY

When my first guess, SLATE, didn’t reveal any useable letters, I was sort of miffed because up until now it had been quite successful. As the game progressed and I slowly began running out of tiles to make words, I realized that it was actually very helpful that I played it early on as it significantly shrank the amount of letters that I had to work with. Something tells me that there’ll be a lot of players peeved by the fact that there were 3 M’s in the layout. Frightening, but fun! At least it was for me. Wishing everyone a healthy and happy Sunday. On to tomorrow!

SPIEL

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: What TALK you so long to solve it?

My Gameplay: SWEAR, SHONE, SPIED, SPIES, SPIEL

I knew it was either SPIED, SPIES, or SPIEL, but unfortunately luck wasn’t on my side this morning. Sometimes I think it’d be easier to solve if the rules of the game were such that past tense suffixes couldn’t be used in gameplay (-ED) and the elimination of an S at the end to make plural words. Have a Happy Saturday and enjoy your weekend. On to tomorrow!

GROVE

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: When will we get some ARBOR ones?

My Gameplay: CRANE, PRIZE, DROVE, TROVE, GROVE

My third guess perfectly describes how I felt about the solve at the end. It DROVE me bananas! Was it GROVE or TROVE? Luckily, I had used the P in PRIZE so I didn’t have PROVE as a viable option. How’d you do? On to tomorrow!

Wordle Answer for 10/20/2022 (#488)

DENIM

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Did this solve STRAUSS you out?

My Gameplay: TALES, PERCH, BOINK, MUDDY, DENIM

My suggestion is if you haven’t solved it by the fourth guess, come up with an obsure word with odd letters and give it a whirl. That’s how I bumped into MUDDY and walked away a winner. On to tomorrow!

QUIRK

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Make sure to PECULIAR toys up or you’ll be grounded!

My Gameplay: TALES, WORMY, GRIND, CHIRP, QUIRK

What a hump day surprise! By the time I was on my fifth and final guess I was down to 9 letters on the board and it still took a few minutes to come up with it on account of that pesky Q. The same issue came up yesterday with the X in EXIST so I figured today’s solve would contain either double letters or an odd letter. There aren’t many letter combos that form words with Q so it came quickly when I finally latched on to the letter. On to tomorrow!

EXIST

DEFINITIONETYMOLOGY

Pun Play: Did JOURNEYED all your guesses to solve it?

My Gameplay: STARE, TESTY, QUEST, EXIST

After my first guess I thought I was playing yesterday’s game as the S, T, and E all popped up again for the second day in a row. There weren’t any funky letters in yesterday’s answer “STEIN” so I figured we’d be due one today. Have a terrific Tuesday everyone. On to tomorrow!
